Maintenance for wheel bearing of cars (do it yourself)
 
  For traffic safety, wheel bearings of cars must be regularly checked, cleaned and lubricated.
  Firstly, jacked the end of car which need to be checked, and supported on the security boot. If check the rear wheel, parking brake should be disengaged, then rotate the wheel by hands. The wheel should smoothly rotate without ragged friction and "Ko Deng" sound under normal circumstances. Please do not confuse the scrape of brake pads & brake disc and the noise during bearing rotating so as to aviod judgment errors.
  When checking nut of the wheel bearing, it should ensure the tightness. The detailed method is to grasp the top & bottom of the tire, shake the tire, which will no obvious swing. If feel a little loose, or never make bearing cleaning or change grease when car has run 50,000 km, it should to be opened and checked. Bearing nut is fixed by cotter pin which should took out and threw away, then change a new cotter pin. If bearings used for cars are fixed by special locking nut, then release it from the axle slot with a punch. When put together again, a new nut is much better. Removing the nut with socket wrench, taking out the retainer ring and outer bearing by shaking wheels. Afterwards, taking out the tires from the car on the two wooden pads, knocking the seal in the back of wheel hub with punch, then the inner bearing will come off with seal.
  Thoroughly cleaned all the parts with detergent, and these cleaned bearings should be placed on a clean cloth, let it dry naturally. Carefully examine each roller and roller cage, also the outer seat of bearing. If there has depth of scratches, peeling or heat discoloration on the roller or seat, bearings must be replaced.
  Coating new grease on the cleaned & dried bearings. The detailed way is to evenly press the grease into the around of the roller by hands, mount the inner bearing into the wheel hub and install a new oil seal, then knock the oil seal to suitable place with hammer which matted with hard wood. Set the wheel hub on the axles, install the outer bearing and ring, rotate the wheel hub in one side, tighten the nut on the other side. Finally, tighten this fixed nut by looking up maintenance manual and in accordance with relevant regulations.
  Inserting a new cotter pin, if does not look at the hole, it should be slightly loosed rathan than tighten the nut, then bend the cotter pin ends. If the vehicle uses special fixed nut, it should curved the part of the locking piece, after properly fixed, the maintenance work for wheel bearing is done.
